Installing Dream Home

The unexpectedly long process of buying a piece of land...

We had talked and dreamed of having our own slice of quiet heaven since shortly after we started dating. After buying our first house and seeing the housing market taking off, as well as locating an area that was being put up for sale, we made the decision to start working on that goal.

We first applied to purchase a plot prior to listing our home, but due to complications of recently starting a business and having a self employed income, we soon found out it would not be that simple.

We ended up selling our home Jan 2019 when the market was booming. The thought process was, we will sell the house, move in with the in laws for a month or two till closing is complete and we can find a new house (rent or purchase) and then start working on the dream home.

I should have learned by now not to put to much stock in my plans, because the good Lord is going to test me every time. The closing process was delayed quite some time due to city council meetings of dividing up the land that was originally agricultural land.

Not to worry I told myself, we will work on the plans and with our builder to yet again plan for once the land does close. So we stated working with a wonderful drafter/engineer on the plans and designs for our forever home. I would highly recommend this step and finding a good person to work with with experience. The insight and thoughts he brought up on what we thought we wanted were well worth the cost.

July of 2019 we finally closed on our 14.88 acres of Nebraska Farm Land that will eventually be the site of our forever home. (The photos taken in the tall grass are on our land) An extra fun bit, we will be acreage neighbors to Nick’s brother and sister in law (and their son Easton).

Please pray for Bree’s and my sanity as our boys (eventually) grow up across the creek from one another.
